What in the world is a Rubber Ducky?

Recently I stumbled upon the concept of a “Rubber Ducky” and was intrigued. The Rubber Ducky refers to a seemingly innocent USB drive that when plugged into a computer, executes potentially malicious code and can be used for penetration testing, security auditing or for some good ole fashioned fun. I believe Hak5 was the original seller and creator of the Rubber Ducky, although I’m sure the concept existed prior. Looking on their site, the Rubber Ducky is available for a mere 49.99 USD.

Kinda pricey for a USB if you ask me, but with its ease of setup and its use, it might be worth it. However, if you are on a budget and aren’t looking to drop a Ulysses S. Grant on it (that’s who is on the 50, look it up) AND you are willing to take a few extra steps, then I might have the solution for you.

I recently found a small Development Board for Arduino on eBay that was recommended as an alternative. At the time of writing this, they were going for about 4 USD a piece. I ordered 5 immediately.

Null Byte has a comprehensive video on the setup of this budget Rubber Ducky. Seytonic also has a great video that helped me set it all up.

More to follow, soon…

Stay Curious, My Friends.
